The ball of the foot is misunderstood. It is the common lay term for the part of the foot where your toes connect to the front part of your foot. For example, right behind your second toe, the one next to your big toe. It is under this area of the foot there are joints that connect your toes to your foot. It is these joints, that get injured or inflamed from repetitive pounding, shearing or pressure. Sometimes it is a structural problem, sometimes it is a mechanical imbalance.
